Belize (Womens Trip) October 15-22, 2022

belizeJoin Jamie & Jolene on this adventure to Belize!  We will be staying at the beautiful new Belize Dive Havem Resort!

Belize Dive Haven is located in the pristine Turneffe Atoll, just 30 kilometers off shore from Belize City. As part of the Belize Barrier Reef, the Atoll consists of creeks, lagoons, mangrove islands and cayes. It is home to over 500 species of fish, 65 different species of stony corals as well as birds, turtles, manatees and dolphins.

Belize Dive Haven is located on 47-acres of breathtakingly beautiful and private land within the Tuneffe Atoll. Nestled between palm trees and the Caribbean Sea, we provide the perfect getaway for couples, individuals or groups.

Diving

Turneffe Atoll was designated a marine reserve in 2012 and is considered to have the best resort-based diving in all of Belize. The shallower reefs provide the perfect dive spot for novices, while the nearby Great Blue Hole is the perfect scuba location for experienced divers.

There are countless dive locations in and around the atoll and we can tailor your diving adventures to your expertise level and preference. Belize dive Haven is centrally located to the best sites in Belize.

Belize is home to the largest barrier reef in the northern hemisphere with an area that stretches about 300 kilometres. The reef is a UNESCO heritage site and it’s the second largest reef system in the world with its seven sites (Bacalar Chico National Park and Marine Reserve, Great Blue Hole, Half Moon Caye, South Water Caye, Glovers Reef, Laughing Bird Caye and Sapodilla Cayes) showcasing how a reef develops.

The reef is home to numerous threatened species, such as the West Indian manatee, the green turtle, the hawksbill turtle, the loggerhead turtle and the American crocodile. The largest West Indian manatee population in the world lives in the area with numbers of between 300 to 700.

You’ll be exposed to all kinds of plant life with the reef boasting 178 types of plants that grow on land and 247 types of plants that grow in the water. During your ocean explorations, you have the chance to see over 500 types of fish, 65 marine corals, along with many different kinds of sponges, crustaceans and molluscs.

Red Sea Aggressor Liveaboard – November 30-December 11, 2022

Red Sea Aggressor Liveaboard – November 30-December 11, 2022

Join Erik & Melanie Payeur on this amazing adventure! The Red Sea is a world class destination! We will be staying on the Aggressor III on the South itinerary. If you like seeing beautiful soft corals, large sealife, and cool wrecks this trip is for you. Below are a sample of some of the dive sites we will be diving!

BIG BROTHER: The Brothers (Big Brother and Little Brother, or in Arabic, ‘El Akhawein’) are two small islands in The Red Sea. They are situated 67 km out to sea from Al Qusayr. Above water, Big Brother features a lighthouse which was built by the British in 1883 and is manned by the Egyptian military. Underwater, there are two wrecks: Numidia and Aida. The walls of Big Brother plunge down into the blue at an almost-vertical angle. Shallow swim-throughs are concealed in the wall on the west side of the site making them fun to discover. Hard and soft corals, including some Gorgonian Fans cover the reef and the ubiquitous Anthias are found in the thousands. Fish of all sizes and species live here, including large pelagic life such as Hawksbill Turtles, Grey Reef Sharks, Thresher Sharks, Longimanus (from October/November), and occasionally, Hammerhead Sharks.

LITTLE BROTHER: Little Brother is, as the name suggests, the smaller of the two islands and is located 1 km to the south of Big Brother. Much like Big Brother, the currents can be strong or not present at all and they often change at a moment’s notice, adding to the adventure and excitement. Deep walls surround the island with a glorious plateau in the north. Here, it feels like diving in an aquarium with a huge variety of marine life including the larger Hawksbill Turtles, Grey Reef Sharks, Thresher Sharks, and Hammerhead Sharks. The ‘Gorgonian Forest’ lies in the south east of the site. Longnose Hawkfish perch on the large Gorgonians, however, their shy temperament means they can be a challenge to photograph!

DAEDALUS: This large reef, also referred to as Abu El Kizan, is found 80 km offshore from Marsa Alam. A lighthouse which was built in 1861 by the British stands tall on the small artificial island in the centre of the reef. Today it is manned by the Egyptian military. Currents tend to be much more predictable here, and divers have an excellent opportunity to spot large pelagic life such as schooling Ham

merhead Sharks, Thresher Sharks which are commonly seen in the north. Manta Rays can be found anywhere (from March – October), and Grey Reef Sharks and Whitetip Reef Sharks patrol the reef walls. Whale Sharks occasionally pass by in the summer months. Broccoli Corals in a range of candy colours grow out from the reef on all sides. There are pristine hard coral formations in the north and east especially, while overhangs are home to schools of Glass Sweepers. The south plateau is covered in yellow Litophyton Arboreum and Pulsing Xenia. The west has two spectacular sights… ‘Anemone City’ is a section of the reef wall which is covered in Magnificent Anemone. Further down to the south west is another section of the wall which is covered in Elephant Ear Coral. In terms of topography, the very north of the reef is concave. Many different fish such as Wrasse, Parrot Fish, Rabbit Fish, and Unicorn Fish congregate on top of the reef in the clear, shallow water.

ELPHINSTONE: Elphinstone is a very famous, cigar-shaped reef which sits 6 km out to sea from Marsa Alam. There is a long plateau in the north and south of Elphinstone with the rest of the reef being a steep, colourful wall rich in hard and soft corals. Currents are variable, and can be strong or not present at all. While shark sightings are not guaranteed, the Longimanus cruises in the shallows in the season, and every so often divers encounter Hammerhead Sharks, Grey Reef Sharks, Silky Sharks, and Manta Rays. Barracuda hang in the blue, and Cornet Fish use divers for cover while they hunt the Anthias.

The dive staff on-board changes the divers’ tanks after every dive. At day’s end divers take their wetsuits, diveskins and masks to the storage area to dry and their photo/video gear to their rooms. All of the divers gear on-board will be rinsed with fresh clean water after each diving day.

Clark’s Cay (Guanaja) – February 4-11, 2023

SOLD OUT!

Join Mike Daust to this private Island paradise for a weeks worth of diving! We will be

staying in the Cabanas at Clarks Cay. Imagine one island, 20 guests, almost as many staff, and a private waterpark guaranteed to bring the kid out in anyone!

The Clark’s Cay Team, divers themselves, know their guests enjoy nothing more than being in the water. Any water, all the time.

So, in 2017, while renovating the island amenities, they decided to build a private waterpark for their guests’ enjoyment during their “surface intervals!”

The waterpark originally included a spa and an infinity pool with a waterslide entering a meandering lazy river, complete with a tunnel and waterfall.

In 2019, the Team expanded the waterpark “toys” to include some giant inflatable ride-on floats, and just off the sandy beach, a water trampoline. Paddleboards are now available in addition to kayaks. And lest we forget to mention it – the PADI dive operation offers up to three boat dives daily!

Diving

There are 50+ named Guanaja dive sites, another 6 or so “kept secret” by the Clark’s Cay dive staff for their guests only. More dive sites being discovered every day along the barrier reef off Guanaja and around the numerous cays that surround the island. Below is some information on just a few of our favorite Guanaja dive sites.

Visibility is generally around 100 feet/30 meters. During the rainy season (roughly October to January) visibility can dip below the usual, though we are always able to scout out the areas that offer the best conditions. Currents are mostly mild to non-existent.

More than 50 rarely visited dive sites offer a mixture of pinnacles, vertical walls, lava tunnels, and wrecks

Guanaja’s fringing reef is a protected marine reserve making it an ideal spot for scuba diving and snorkeling nearly anywhere offshore the mainland. Part of a volcanic and coral mountain range called The Bonacca Ridge, Guanaja marks the beginning of the second largest barrier reef in the world – the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. It offers a mixture of pinnacles, vertical walls, lava tunnels and wrecks including the nearby Jado Trader, one of the most sought-after wrecks in the Caribbean. It also boasts nearly every species of coral growing in the Caribbean Sea, including several species of rare black coral, and sponges of all colors, shapes and sizes.

Nearly all of the sites offer lively shallow terraces that are perfect for snorkeling as well as scuba diving. Separate snorkel tours are offered to ensure you are taken to a site that is guaranteed for good snorkeling. When joining the scuba divers, we also do our best to accommodate sites that work well for divers and snorkelers.

Expect to see plenty of silverside sardines as well as glassy sweepers, groupers, barracudas, huge groupers, yellowtails, moray eels, and swarms of silverside sardines, sharks, eagle rays, and plenty of reef fish

Aquaventure Family Scuba Trip

JUNE 10-17, 2023

Welcome to Aquaventure’s Family SCUBA Trip!

It’s time to unplug, recharge, and make family memories that will last a lifetime!  We have activities planned for everyone – both in and out of the water!    This is an ALL-INCLUSIVE trip with no hidden costs!  Say GOODBYE to those post-trip outrageous credit card bills!

How does this work?

We’ve planned family activities as well as time for you to recharge without the kids!  Each morning, families eat breakfast together and then parents head out for a two-tank morning boat dive.  The younger kids enjoy a fun-filled morning of kid’s club activities while Turquoise Bay’s experienced divemasters take the teen divers out on their very own boat! (Max depth 40 feet for ages 10-11 and max. 60 feet for ages 12-14.)

The morning dive boats return and parent’s meet up with their kids for lunch together before heading out on an afternoon one-tank family boat dive.  That’s right…it’s the best of both worlds…dive on your own and dive with the whole family!  Do you have non-diving kids?  No worries!  They can stay at Kid’s Club with the nannies while the rest of the family enjoys their afternoon dive together.  Does one spouse dive and the other doesn’t?  No worries!  Non-diving parents can get some downtime while the boats are out and the kids are at Kid’s Club.  Stroll the beach, ride horseback, shop west-end Roatan, take a dip in the pool, snorkel from shore, or read a book in the hammocks!  Enjoy what you want while your family is well cared for!  Evenings are spent dining as a family with local entertainment and optional activities.

Why a family scuba trip?

We are parents too and understand how challenging it is to connect with kids in this fast-paced world!  We have also experienced the amazing bondslothroatan that adventure travel brings to families.  Therefore, we have designed this trip so that no one will have to compromise their vacation!  There will be plenty of opportunities to build lasting memories – both in and out of the water.

What will we do?

Dive and snorkel together, kayak the mangroves, zipline the jungle canopy, tour the botanical gardens, visit the Monkey and Sloth Sanctuary, ride horseback on the beach, practice the art of sand sculpting, learn about Turquoise Bay’s coral restoration efforts, sing karaoke, eat three meals a day together, watch the fire dancers and local entertainment, or just play together in the pool!  All of these activities are included in the cost of the trip to make it easy and carefree!  As a result, relax and enjoy your family time!  We’ve got you covered!

Who is leading the group?

The trip leader is Aquaventure Instructor, Aaron Allison!  As a father of two scuba kids, he and his wife are avid divers and believe that a family that travels and dives together creates a very special bond.  Aaron’s experience traveling and sharing scuba adventures with his young family brings a unique and helpful perspective as Aquaventure’s trip leader!

Why Roatan?

We have chosen the remote and quaint Turquoise Bay Resort as your paradise destination for the week.  The onsite dive shop has years of experience teaching kids scuba, snorkeling, and how to care for our beautiful ocean.  Located on the northeast end of Roatan, this is an ideal spot for those who have a passion for exploration and a desire to disconnect and relax.  The resort is nestled between a lush tropical backdrop and a long white-sand beach!

Due to its close proximity to pristine reefs, Roatan is famous for its world-class diving!  The reefs are easily accessible for both first-time divers and experienced divers, which provides the opportunity for all levels of divers to explore a variety of marine environments at shallow depths with colorful walls that go as deep as your certification allows you to dive!
